Twenty-Four Hours en Day - Vuelo 27
Rasikananda Swami
Twenty-Four Hours a Day
Srila Gurudeva: If your mind is going here and there, then go to Govardhana and try to chant loudly, ‘Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.’ Do parikrama of Govardhana. You can take some rest at Kusuma Sarovara, Govinda-kunda, and especially take bath at Radha-kunda. First take bath in Radha-kunda and then Syama-kunda. While chanting 'Hare Krsna' and thinking about all these things, gradually your mind will be controlled. In our sampradaya, especially in the line of Rupa Gosvami, anyone does not have to do anything to remove anarthas.
We only have to engage our mind all the time, second by second, only for what thing? To engage our mind in chanting, remembering, reading, and worshiping Krsna for twenty-four hours a day. Then the mind cannot go here and there. Thus we can easily conquer anarthas and we will develop some taste. So these are the processes to enter into the realm of bhakti. We should try to follow all these things. Rupa Gosvami has said that without the association of Vaisnavas, we cannot attain bhakti. What to speak of bhakti, even our attraction to worldly desire will not leave us.
mahat-krpa vina kona karme bhakti naya
krsna-bhakti dure rahu samsara nahe ksaya
Sri Caitanya-caritamrta Madhya-lila 22.51
[Unless one is favored by a pure devotee, one cannot attain the platform of devotional service. To say nothing of krsna-bhakti, one cannot even be relieved from the bondage of material existence.]
We should try to be far away from four things: eating, sleeping, fearing, and mating. We should try to avoid all these things. Also the three W's: wealth, women, and wine. Here, women means males also. For women it means males and for males it means women. It is not only one sided. We should try to follow all these things. Don't smoke ganja, marijuana, and all these things. It is so dangerous. It is like a maha big poison. Anyone can die by these things.
Have a very strong belief in Gurudeva and the Guru-parampara. Don't have any doubt in our Guru-parampara, otherwise you will die in spiritual life. It will be your loss. You should not think that Bhaktivedanta Svami Maharaja was a very simple, ordinary person. Don't think like this. He has come to the West, East, and everywhere in the world and he made a revolution in bhakti-yoga. We should not lose faith in him and our Guru-parampara.
We should believe in our Guru-parampara and the line which has been given by our Guru-parampara. What you do to maintain your life, you should give less time to that and more to this. You have to do so much labor and experience so much suffering to maintain your life. I see that some people, like machines, they are working for sixteen hours a day. They have no time for anything else. But if we want to attain bhakti, we will have to do even more labor than this.
[Spoken by Srila Gurudeva on April 27th, 1998, France, published as part of the Bhakta Bandhav Anthology, Volume 27]
